Software Development Staff Augmentation

Senior engineers who embed in your team and ship alongside your developers — no offshore, no junior devs, no handoff lag.

What is software development staff augmentation?

Software development staff augmentation means adding external engineers directly into your existing team — working in your tools, attending your standups, and shipping in your codebase. Code and Trust provides onshore senior engineers who integrate in 3–5 days and operate at full velocity by week 2. Engagements run 3–12 months with a 30-day exit clause.

How it differs from outsourcing

Traditional outsourcing hands work to a separate team with their own processes. Staff augmentation means the engineer joins your team — your Jira, your standups, your PR reviews, your codebase. The difference is whether they report to your processes or their own. With augmentation, the answer is always yours.

  • Your processes — augmented engineers follow your sprint cadence, not their own
  • Your tools — Slack, GitHub, Jira, Linear: whatever you use, they use
  • Your standards — PRs reviewed against your guidelines, code in your style
  • No separate vendor team — they sit in your org chart, not alongside it
  • No handoff lag — no weekly status reports, no intermediary project manager
  • No offshore timezone gap — onshore engineers on US business hours

Engineer types available

We provide senior engineers across the full stack — not just front-end or back-end generalists. If your team needs a specific specialization, from AI/ML to DevOps to mobile, we match the placement to the actual gap rather than placing a generalist and hoping they figure it out.

Senior full-stack engineers

5+ years each, React/Node/Python/PostgreSQL

AI/ML specialists

For teams adding AI features, embeddings, or LLM integrations

Mobile engineers

React Native, Swift — iOS and Android

DevOps engineers

Infrastructure scaling, CI/CD, Kubernetes, AWS

Product-embedded designers

Figma to production, embedded in the engineering team

Who staff augmentation is for

Staff augmentation works best when there's a specific capacity gap, not a vague need for 'more development work.' The most successful engagements have a clear project, an existing team to integrate with, and a defined timeline — even if that timeline is flexible.

  • Teams with more approved headcount than they can hire for in the current market
  • Companies with a critical deadline and not enough engineers to hit it
  • Teams replacing a departing senior engineer without waiting 3 months to hire

Technology match

We match engineers to your stack, not the other way around. Primary expertise: React/Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL. We also place React Native, Swift, Go, Ruby, and PHP engineers depending on your team's needs. No generalists placed on specialized work.

Recent example

A Series B SaaS company needed 3 senior engineers for a 6-month feature push with a contractual customer deadline. We placed 3 engineers within 2 weeks. All 3 were committing production code by day 5 of the engagement. The project delivered 2 weeks early.

Common questions

How quickly can you place engineers?

Most placements start within 1–2 weeks of contract signing. We maintain a bench of available engineers for fast-start engagements.

How do augmented engineers integrate with our team?

They join your Slack, your GitHub, your Jira. They attend your standups, ship PRs against your review process, and follow your coding standards. They operate as team members, not as a separate vendor team.

What level of engineers do you provide?

Senior only — 5+ years minimum per engineer. We don't provide junior engineers for augmentation engagements. Every placement has at least 2 full-stack production projects behind them.

Can we evaluate an engineer before committing?

Yes. We offer a 1-week paid trial on a small, real task before the full engagement starts.

What if the engineer isn't working out?

The 30-day exit clause applies with no penalty. We replace the engineer within 1 week.
